In Brief: Checkfree Files for Second Public Offering

Checkfree Holdings Corp. filed Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a second public offering of 3.5 million shares of common stock.

A spokeswoman said 2.35 million of those shares would be offered by Checkfree; other stockholders would offer the remaining 1.15 million. KeyCorp, formerly a member of Integrion Financial Network LLC, is selling 150,000 shares it was issued as a member of the on-line banking consortium.

Checkfree, which provides electronic bill payment and presentment services, will use the proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes, including expansion and potential acquisitions.

Merrill Lynch & Co., BT Alex. Brown, Hambrecht & Quist and U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray are managing the offering.
