In Brief: Countrywide Plans New Servicing Center

CALABASAS, Calif. — Countrywide Home Loans on Tuesday announced that it will build a new loan servicing center in Lancaster, Calif., bringing 500 jobs to the high-desert community at the northern edge of Los Angeles County.

The 102,000-square-foot center will be built in the Lancaster Business Park with a projected opening in spring 2002. The facility and the jobs will be new ones, needed to keep up with Countrywide’s anticipated growth, the company said.

Countrywide has two existing servicing centers, one in Plano, Tex., and one in Simi Valley, Calif.

Countrywide originated more than $30 billion in new residential mortgages in its latest fiscal quarter, which ended on May 31. The company services the mortgages of more the three million homeowners across the country, worth over $309 billion, as of July 31, a spokeswoman said.
