In Brief: E-Trade in Wireless Deal with Nextel

MENLO PARK, Calif. - E-Trade Group Inc. announced that users of Nextel Communications Inc.'s Internet-ready phones will be able to access E-Trade's wireless features and applications.

Nextel offers wireless Internet services in all but two of the 100 most populated U.S. markets. Its subscribers will be able to receive stock quotes, account information, and market research from E-Trade.

E-Trade already has alliances with Sprint PCS, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless Group, GTE Wireless, Everypath Inc., and OmniSky. The agreement with Nextel extends its E-Trade Everywhere strategy.

"Nextel is an important partner for E-Trade as we strive to continue attracting new customers and driving adoption of wireless financial services among our existing base of approximately three million E-Trade accounts," said James Safka, general manager of E-Trade Everywhere.
