BEVERLY, Mass. -Electric Insurance Co., a direct writer of automobile and homeowner insurance operating primarily by the Internet, has added a homeowner insurance quoting service to its offerings.
It covers 18 states and will expand into others, said the company, which plans eventually to round out the service by letting consumers complete purchases online.
Electric Insurance has been offering auto insurance quotes on the Web since 1996 and sells some auto products online.
The company represents more than 125,000 policyholders. It sells through its own site as well as online and by phone through Firstfed Insurance Agency, a subsidiary of FirstFed America Bancorp of Swansea, Mass.
