Fannie Mae said Thursday that it would support home equity lending in Texas by investing in the loans and providing homeowners with information about them.

Last month Texans enacted by referendum a law allowing home equity lending in the state for the first time.

Fannie Mae will be working with lenders, industry organizations, and consumer groups to educate consumers.

In addition, Fannie Mae will be drafting documents for the state to address the special requirements of the new law and working with public officials and industry groups to facilitate compliance.
