In Brief: Fannie Mae Vows To Aid Small Banks

LAS VEGAS — Fannie Mae chairman and chief executive officer Franklin Raines said in a speech last Thursday that Fannie Mae is committed to working more closely with smaller banks.

“Frankly, it made more sense to focus on large-volume lenders, but those days are gone,” he said. “We want to help small community lenders that can compete with any big bank in the country.”

Mr. Raines made the comments at a gathering hosted by the Independent Community Bankers of America.
