In Brief: First Union's President For N.Y. Area Retiring

Donald C. Parcells, president of First Union's New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut banking operations, is to retire June 30. Mr. Parcells, 55, is leaving to pursue other interests, a spokesman said.

Mr. Parcells, who had been at First Fidelity Bancorp of New Jersey when First Union bought it in 1996, was named regional president in 1997 after First Union's merger with CoreStates Financial Corp. of Philadelphia.

He is to be succeeded by Robert Reid, First Union's Northeast executive vice president, who will report directly to president John R. Georgius.

Mr. Parcells has been in banking for 29 years, working at Citicorp, Chase Manhattan Corp., and First Fidelity. His older brother, Bill, coaches the New York Jets.
