BankAtlantic has signed an agreement to install automated teller machines inside 128 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores in Georgia and Alabama. This is the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., savings bank's first presence outside the Sunshine State. BankAtlantic currently operates 138 ATM machines at Wal-Mart locations in Florida.
The installations are expected to be completed by April. When they are, BankAtlantic will operate 393 ATMs in three states.
"This agreement is another milestone in our four-year relationship with Wal-Mart," said BankAtlantic chairman and chief executive officer Alan B. Levan.
BankAtlantic, with $3.1 billion of assets, has 65 branches. The thrift also operates ATMs on 16 cruise ships.
