In Brief: Fleet Boston Unit Invests in Trading Network

BancBoston Robertson Stephens, the investment banking arm of Fleet Boston Corp. on Wednesday joined five other companies, Prudential Securities among them, in announcing an investment in Strike Technologies, a New York electronic communications network.

Strike Technologies went live in March with an interactive trading network for Nasdaq-listed stocks catering to broker-dealers, market makers, and institutions.

Robertson Stephens took a substantial stake, said a spokesman for Strike Technologies, who declined to elaborate. Robertson Stephens executives were unavailable to comment. There are now 24 partners in the network with a total investment of $38 million. Existing partners included Banc of America Securities, a unit of Charlotte-based Bank of America Corp. -- Niamh Ring
