In Brief: Fleet Lays Off Top Brass at Galaxy Funds

BOSTON - FleetBoston Financial Corp. has laid off two top executives in its Fleet Asset Management, which manages the company's Galaxy Funds.

Robert Ash, the unit's chief executive officer and senior managing director, and Rich Joseph, its managing director of product distribution, were laid off April 2, a company spokeswoman said.

The layoffs were part of an effort to integrate the division into the company's other asset management divisions, she said.

Glen Martin, FleetBoston's director of marketing and product origination, will oversee the funds on an interm basis, the spokeswoman said.
