In Brief: Fleet Testing Online Safe Deposit Boxes

BOSTON - FleetBoston Financial Corp. is testing FileTrust, a Web-based safe deposit box that lets customers store and view electronic documents and images, with a select group of its small-business clients.

The product is designed for home offices and small-business professionals, such as lawyers, certified public accountants, and doctors, who typically do not own backup file servers but want to ensure the safety and integrity of their records. Customers rent space and use a personal identification number and password to upload or download files.
