In Brief: Former Carter Aide Joins Freddie Board

WASHINGTON - President Clinton on Friday appointed Washington lobbyist and former Carter administration aide James C. Free to the Freddie Mac board of directors.

Mr. Free, president and chief executive officer of the Smith-Free Group, does not need Senate confirmation for his six-month term that began last week. The 18-member Freddie board consists of five presidential appointees, who are named annually, and 13 members elected by shareholders.
