In Brief: Gramm Names Subcommittee Chairmen

WASHINGTON — Senate Banking Committee Chairman Phil Gramm announced his five subcommittee chairmen Thursday.

Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., was named chairman of the economic policy subcommittee, which had been headed by Sen. Connie Mack, R-Fla., who retired.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., has taken over the international trade and finance subcommittee from Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., who now heads the securities and investment subcommittee. The previous chairman of the securities panel was Sen. Rod Grams, R-Minn., who lost his reelection bid.

Sen. Robert F. Bennett, R-Utah, has retained the chairmanship of the financial institutions subcommittee and Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., will remain chairman of the housing and transportation subcommittee.
