In Brief: Greenspan to Testify in House Next Week

WASHINGTON - Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan will testify before the House Financial Services Committee on July 18, committee Chairman Michael G. Oxley, R-Ohio, announced Tuesday.

A recent provision of law requires the Fed chairman to appear twice a year before the congressional committees with its jurisdiction.

In a press release Mr. Oxley did not say what specific matters would be addressed in the hearing.

He said, however, that "the economy has been in a difficult period. Many believe it is poised to revive with the help of both monetary and fiscal policy actions that have been taken."
