In Brief: Hartford to Market Annuities in Japan

HARTFORD, Conn. — By yearend Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. plans to be selling annuities outside the United States — in Japan.

It plans to start with variable annuities, which it would distribute through Japanese securities companies and financial planners.

The launch awaits a license for its Japanese representative office, Hartford Life Insurance KK, to start operation.

In the United States, Hartford is one of the top sellers of annuities through banks.
