In Brief: Hawaii Bank to Start an Outsourcing Unit

HONOLULU - CB Bancshares Inc., the third-largest bank holding company in Hawaii, has announced that it will form a subsidiary to offer outsourcing services to banks, thrifts, and credit unions in the state.

The subsidiary, Datatronix, is to offer check processing services only. City Bank, which is owned by CB Bancshares and serves mostly small and midsize businesses at 21 branches throughout the islands, is to be Datatronix's first customer.

Michael Trefero, president of Datatronix, started a similar item-processing business in San Diego in 1982. It had 430 institutional customers throughout California by the time Fiserv bought it in 1993.
