In Brief: Illinois Bank Pairs With a PC Maker

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Systemax Inc., which manufactures and distributes private-label and name-brand PC hardware and related products, and EFC Bancorp of Elgin, Ill., have formed a sales and training alliance.

Systemax will custom-configure PCs to allow instant access to the My eBank package offered by EFC’s Elgin Financial Savings Bank.

Elgin customers can purchase the Systemax PCs at a substantial discount and get access to the Systemax corporate support desk, which typically answers calls within 60 seconds. Systemax will provide computer training at Elgin’s branches.

In turn, Elgin has endorsed Systemax’s custom-configured PCs as the recommended computers for My eBank and will buy Systemax computers exclusively for its own internal network.

“One of the greatest hindrances to the development of online banking is that there are a significant number of people who are not comfortable using the Internet or don’t have sufficient computer power and memory to do it easily and quickly,” said Barrett J. O’Connor, president and chief executive officer of the Elgin bank.
