In Brief: IndyMac Offers Brokers a Web Lending Site

IndyMac Mortgage Holdings Inc. has built a Web site meant to let mortgage brokers make loans for the conduit over the Internet.

The company says the site offers nearly immediate automated loan underwriting and pricing after a broker keys in borrower and property information. If a borrower does not qualify for one loan, the site will suggest another, said Gulshan Garg, director of the site. The site also is to collect loan documents electronically, Mr. Garg said. It is offered free of charge to brokers.

The site has been running on a limited basis since January 1998 and funded more than $600 million of loans last year, IndyMac said.
