In Brief: Lehman Hires Exec For Latin America

NEW YORK - Lehman Brothers has hired Joaquin Avila as the co-head of its Latin American investment banking unit.

Mr. Avila, who has worked in Latin American banking for 20 years, will team up with Jeffrey Weiss on the firm's corporate finance and mergers & acquisition advisory team in the region.

Mr. Avila worked for Compass Group, a New York asset management and private equity firm that specializes in Latin America. Before that he had been a managing director for Banco Santander, a bank based in Santiago, Chile.
