In Brief: Loan Applications Declined in Week

WASHINGTON - On a seasonally adjusted basis, 4.2% fewer mortgage applications were filed in the week that ended Oct. 6 than in the week before, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported Wednesday.

Refinancings were 21.8% of the total, up from 20.7%. Adjustable-rate mortgages rose to 14.5%, from 13.7%.

The average contract interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 7.87%, up from 7.8%, the MBA said.
