In Brief: M&I Unit Is Linking Banks, Quicken Users

M&I Data Services said it is offering financial institution clients the ability to link their on-line services to customers who use Intuit Inc.'s Quicken 2000 personal financial management software.

M&I, a unit of Marshall & Ilsley Corp., and Intuit said the institutions can let Quicken users download balances, pay bills, transfer funds, and e-mail their financial institutions directly.

M&I is also providing the institutions with 24-hour service. The data processor has about 600 such clients for on-line banking services and about 1,000 customers for electronic bill payment, all of which can opt to add the Quicken linkage.
