In Brief: Management Buys Investment Firm

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The senior management of Investment Research Co. has purchased the firm from its parent company, Boston-based United Asset Management Co.

The firm manages about $2 billion in equity portfolios for institutional clients using quantitative valuation methods. It changed its name to Freeman Associates Investment Management LLC upon closing the deal.

Terms of the deal, which closed Jan. 18, were not disclosed.
