In Brief: Marketing Group Gets 1st Credit Union Leader

John Lawler has become the first credit union executive to head the Financial Institutions Marketing Association in the Chicago group's 30-year history.

Mr. Lawler, chief operating officer of SEFCU Service Inc., a subsidiary of the State Employees Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., succeeds Robert D. Emslie as association chairman. He had been chairman-elect for the past year.

Credit unions comprise about 30% of the financial institutions that belong to the association, said Charles E. Bartling, president and chief staff officer. And they are the trade group's fastest-growing membership segment.

Two of the three new directors named for two-year terms also are credit union employees: Vic Toy, vice president of marketing for Educational Employees Credit Union, Fife, Wash., and J. Denise McCollum, vice president of marketing for Las Vegas-based Silver State Schools Federal Credit Union.

Mr. Emslie, president of First County Bank, Stamford, Conn., will serve a year more on the board.
