WASHINGTON The Mortgage Bankers Association of America has promoted general counsel Howard B. Glaser to senior staff vice president for government affairs and announced that he would lead the associations stepped-up lobbying and government relations effort.
Mr. Glaser will oversee a consolidated government affairs division that contains the associations legislative, regulatory, and general counsels offices. The mortgage group also hired three high-profile lobbyists as consultants: Charles Black, chief executive officer of BKSH & Associates; Scott Reed, president of Chesapeake Enterprises; and Howard Paster, chief executive officer of Hill & Knowlton International Inc.
The associations decision to increase its lobbying efforts comes at a time when segments of the mortgage industry are under heavy fire from regulators trying to crack down on predatory lending.
