In Brief: MBA Picks Leader For Lobbying Efforts

WASHINGTON — The Mortgage Bankers Association of America has promoted general counsel Howard B. Glaser to senior staff vice president for government affairs and announced that he would lead the association’s stepped-up lobbying and government relations effort.

Mr. Glaser will oversee a consolidated government affairs division that contains the association’s legislative, regulatory, and general counsel’s offices. The mortgage group also hired three high-profile lobbyists as consultants: Charles Black, chief executive officer of BKSH & Associates; Scott Reed, president of Chesapeake Enterprises; and Howard Paster, chief executive officer of Hill & Knowlton International Inc.

The association’s decision to increase its lobbying efforts comes at a time when segments of the mortgage industry are under heavy fire from regulators trying to crack down on predatory lending.
