In Brief: MC Expands Small-Biz Rewards

PURCHASE, N.Y. — MasterCard International has announced an expansion of MasterCard Business Bonuses, its rewards program for small businesses using the MasterCard BusinessCard.

Cardholders now can earn points toward a MasterCard Bonus Card, which may be used to buy goods and services at any site where MasterCard cards are accepted.

Offered through participating member financial institutions, the program lets cardholders earn points for every dollar spent using their MasterCard cards. Business Bonuses, introduced in 1999, already had allowed BusinessCard holders to redeem rewards points on any airline at any time.

The expansion was announced last month.

“Research shows that small businesses want flexibility and control of their rewards programs,” said Steve Abrams, senior vice president of MasterCard Corporate Payment Solutions. “MasterCard’s Business Bonuses allows business owners to redeem their rewards on their own terms, for any purpose — whether business or personal. By providing the most expansive rewards program to date for small businesses, MasterCard aims to fuel small-business growth and development.”
