In Brief: Mellon Banker Leads Nacha Internet Group

PITTSBURGH — David L. Merritt of Mellon Financial Corp. has been named chairman of the Internet council at Nacha, the electronic payments association, the bank announced Wednesday.

Mr. Merritt is vice president and product design manager in Mellon global cash management’s electronic commerce group and is responsible for the design and development of advanced treasury management solutions.

The council facilitates the development of global electronic commerce by enabling businesses, governments, and consumers to use payment systems over open networks securely and cost-effectively.

Nacha’s Internet council has about 140 members, including financial institutions, automated teller machine networks, technology vendors, federal agencies, state governments, and associations.
