PURCHASE, N.Y. - MasterCard International has announced that the MeT Initiative, a mobile device industry group started by Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia, has joined MasterCard's Global Mobile Commerce Forum.
MasterCard describes the forum, which has more than 200 participants, as an open, cross-industry initiative focusing on the development of secure mobile payments on a variety of technology platforms. It was established last November to foster knowledge exchange among member financial institutions of MasterCard and Europay International, network operators, and leading mobile technology companies.
"In order to unleash the potential of the mobile commerce marketplace, a common, consistent, and globally accepted environment for secure mobile transactions has to exist," said Jan Ahrenbring, vice president of marketing and communications at Ericsson Mobile Communications. Supporting MasterCard's mobile commerce forum "is one step in the process of reaching this common understanding."
