In Brief: Money Store Focus of Suit on Unpaid Wages

A lawsuit filed Tuesday alleges Money Store Inc., a unit of First Union Corp., has failed to pay hundreds of employees overtime wages, Bloomberg reports.

The suit, filed in Sacramento state court on behalf of five plaintiffs, seeks class action status. Assistant branch managers and loan officers worked 55 to 60 hour weeks in order to meet monthly quotas, the suit said. The suit is seeking unspecified damages and a court order compelling The Money Store to pay four years of overtime wages.

The Money Store was purchased by First Union Corp. last year. A First Union spokesman declined to comment, citing the company's policy on pending litigation.
