In Brief: Mortgage Association To Fill Top Staff Position

The Mortgage Bankers Association of America is expected today to name veteran lender Paul S. Reid as executive vice president, its top staff position.

Mr. Reid was selected because of his experience as a mortgage banker and his familiarity with the MBA, executives close to the considerations said. MBA staff declined to confirm the appointment on Tuesday in advance of a formal announcement set for this morning.

Mr. Reid headed the mortgage unit of Rochester Savings Bank until October, when the banking company was acquired by Charter One Financial. He also held the appointed position of MBA president in 1996.

His hiring would end a five-month search in which former Housing and Urban Development Department Secretary Henry Cisneros and former Rep. Steve Bartlett were also named as possible candidates. The MBA's former chief, Warren Lasko, took over the trade group's international unit in June. -
