CLEVELAND National City Corp. appointed veteran executive William E. MacDonald 3d vice chairman, effective Thursday.
He is to succeed Vincent A. DiGirolamo, who is retiring after 41 years at the company. Mr. MacDonald, 54, will also become a member of the office of the chairman. He joined National City in 1968 as a management trainee and in 1992 was elected president of its National City Bank.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
