In Brief: nCipher Raises $8M of Venture Capital

nCipher Corp., a provider of hardware security and cryptographic acceleration systems to improve the efficiency of Internet transactions, said it obtained $8.25 million in a recent round of venture funding.

The infusion will be applied to global sales and marketing, research and product development, said nCipher, which has dual headquarters in Massachusetts and in Cambridge, England.

New investors in the latest round were 3i Group PLC, Prelude Trust PLC, Viventures, and BFC Financial Corp., parent of Bank Atlantic Bancorp.

Existing investors Celtic House Investment Partners, Top Technology, and Newbury Ventures also participated.
