In Brief: Northern Trust CEO’s Pay Surged in 2000

CHICAGO — Northern Trust Corp.’s chairman and chief executive officer received $4.8 million in compensation last year, excluding options, up from $4.6 million in 1999.

In a definitive proxy filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Northern Trust said William A. Osborn’s base salary rose 6%, to $887,500. His bonus, however, rose 20%, to $1.8 million, and he received a restricted stock award of $1.8 million, up from $1.4 million in 1999.

Also included in his compensation was $105,909 paid under a long-term incentive plan and $208,385 under retirement benefit plans.
