In Brief: OCC Urging Help to N.M. Fire Victims

WASHINGTON - Federal regulators have authorized national banks to temporarily close offices in areas of New Mexico affected by devastating fires and to take special measures to help customers.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on Friday encouraged national banks to consider extending the terms of loan repayments, restructuring borrowers' debt obligations, and easing credit terms for new loans to certain borrowers, consistent with prudent banking practice.

National banks in need of help to work with customers affected by the fires should contact the OCC district office in San Francisco at 415-545-5900.
