In Brief: Ohio Merger Partners Announce New Name

Two merging Ohio companies have unveiled a new name for the combined institution: Sky Financial Group.

Mid Am Inc. of Bowling Green and Citizens Bancshares of Salineville unveiled the new name last week. It was chosen from among 2,000 entries in a "Name the New Company" contest, which was open to employees of both companies.

The top prize was $10,000, but instead 25 finalists were awarded $400 for their efforts.

"We really appreciate the overwhelming employee response to the name contest," said Marty E. Adams, president and chief executive officer of Citizens. He will be the combined company's president and chief operating officer.

Top executives from Mid Am and Citizens hailed the new moniker as "flexible, sleek, clean and modern." Shareholders will vote in October on the new name.

The deal, a merger of equals, was announced in May.

Sky Financial would be traded on Nasdaq under the ticker "SKYF" and be the seventh-largest bank holding company in Ohio, with $4.6 billion of assets and 161 branches.
