OppenheimerFunds has tapped one of its senior vice presidents to run the bank sales division.

Elaine Puleo Carter, the director of key accounts in Oppenheimer's bank division, was named director of bank sales Thursday and started immediately, a company spokesman said.

Ms. Puleo Carter's appointment came just two weeks after the departure of her predecessor, Maryann Bruce, who left to take a post at Allstate Insurance Co.

Ms. Puleo Carter joined Oppenheimer in 1992 as a vice president in the bank sales division, handling key accounts on the West Coast.

Before that, she had spent eight years at Shearson Lehman Bros. as a retail broker and sales trainer.

Oppenheimer is the third-biggest mutual fund seller through banks, with $2.5 billion of sales last year and projected sales this year of $3.2 billion.
