BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - People's Bank said it will open 45 new branches in existing and planned Super Stop and Shop stores throughout Connecticut over the next three years. The move will increase People's branch network by more than 50% and add 250 more jobs by 1998, the bank said.

The new 600-square-foot branches will have extended hours and be open seven days a week, People's said.

The bank currently operates seven supermarket branches in the Hartford and New Haven areas.

People's has assets of $6 billion and 79 branches in Connecticut.
