SAN FRANCISCO - Providian Financial Corp. has hired James G. Jones to be president of its international division.
Mr. Jones was most recently president of direct banking and insurance at Bank of America Corp. and had also headed consumer credit there. Earlier in his career he had been head of consumer credit at Wells Fargo Bank, where he worked for 14 years.
Providian chairman and chief executive officer Shailesh J. Mehta said Mr. Jones' appointment to head the international division comes as the company is attempting further expansion.
Providian currently offers credit cards in the United Kingdom and Argentina, as well as lending and deposit products in the United States.
Mr. Jones will work out of Providian's headquarters in San Francisco.
