NEW YORK - The New York State Banking Department has scheduled a Nov. 10 public forum on Citigroup Inc.'s bid to buy the lending subsidiaries of Associates First Capital Corp., which are licensed by the department.
When Citigroup announced the deal in early September, many consumer advocates vowed to block it, saying Dallas-based Associates First's lending practices are predatory and target lower-income and minority consumers.
The all-day meeting will be at the Union Theological Seminary in upper Manhattan. Speakers have to pre-register by Nov. 7.
