Regions Financial Corp. last week signed a deal to buy Minden (La.) Bancshares for $86.5 million of stock.

Minden, parent of Minden Bank and Trust Co., has $332 million of assets and seven branches in northwestern Louisiana.

The deal is expected to be completed this year.

The agreement calls for Regions, based in Birmingham, Ala., to exchange eight shares of its common stock for each common share of Minden. The deal will be accounted for as a purchase.

Regions, which has $39 billion of assets, operates in eight southern states and has 731 branches.
