In Brief: S1 Signs Two Deals For Wireless Service

ATLANTA - The Internet banking software provider S1 Corp. is getting into wireless services.

It has signed a multiyear, global agreement with Aether Systems Inc. to jointly develop, integrate, deploy, and support wireless data access and transaction services for financial service providers. S1 has also signed an agreement with SILA Communications, a London company formed by Aether and Reuters Group, to provide wireless data services in Europe and Asia.

Aether and SILA are to be the worldwide providers of wireless software and services to S1 and its subsidiaries, VerticalOne and Q UP Systems. S1 is to offer services on wireless devices, including Web-enabled phones, personal digital assistants, and pagers, to its 900 worldwide financial services customers.

The company is to gain access to the network operations and data centers operated by Aether and SILA, which offer connections to the major wireless networks, application hosting and development, and customer care. These features are to be rolled out on the entire S1 product line, starting in the fourth quarter.

Edify Corp., an S1 subsidiary, supplies wireless Internet software to ANZ Bank, Daiwa Bank, Bank of Greece, and National Interbank.
