In Brief: Schwab Canada Unit In Free-Phone Offer

TORONTO Charles Schwab Canada Co. said it will offer a free cell phone to customers who open an investment account with a minimum balance of $20,000 between Jan. 15 and March 31.

Customers who qualify for the Motorola Web-enabled phone will have a choice of Bell Mobility service plans. Schwab Canada began advertising the offer in print, radio, and online on Monday.

Schwab Canadas PocketBroker wireless service offers access to real-time quotes, equity trading, news, alerts, and index information. Users can reach Schwab customer service representatives through a one-touch call button that has been integrated into the wireless application.
