Alltel Equips Bureau For Commercial Loans

LITTLE ROCK - Alltel Information Services has fulfilled one goal of its acquisition of Advanced Information Resources Ltd. by equipping its Los Angeles service bureau to support commercial lending.Alltel bought San Diego-based Advanced Information Resources last August as part of a plan to add commercial lending products and services to its mortgage and consumer lending offerings.

The Los Angeles office is the first of Alltel's four service bureaus to support the acquired company's Advanced Commercial Banking System. The system is installed at more than 30 of the top banks, including 16 of the world's 50 largest banks, Alltel said. It handles about 60% of U.S. syndicated loans, by dollar volume, the company said.

The Los Angeles service bureau, one of four that Alltel runs, will serve midsize and large clients, as well as nontraditional financial services companies that are entering commercial lending. It is intended to help its customers reduce costs through centralized service.

Creating the bureau "indicates our commitment to the commercial lending market and to Alltel's overall loan servicing strategy," said Alltel president Jeff Fox.

Don Cooksey, managing director of the Advanced Commercial Banking System for Alltel, said: "By offering commercial lending services in a service bureau environment, organizations have an affordable entry into this business. This new capability will ensure that our commercial lending offerings are cost-effective and will allow clients to concentrate on their core business, while Alltel focuses on the technology."

Banco Popular Selects Call Center Program

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Banco Popular has selected Blue Pumpkin Software's PrimeTime to automate scheduling at its call center in Orlando.The center handles as many as 2,000 calls a day.

"We used to produce all of our schedules manually," said Nuriam Estrada, customer service supervisor at the contact center, which has about 50 service representatives.

"With PrimeTime, we're creating more-accurate schedules in 50% less time," Ms. Estrada said. "Now that we have the right people scheduled at the right time, our service levels are rising. The once complicated task of scheduling is now a very simple process."

Besides handling scheduling, Blue Pumpkin's software helps coordinate breaks and other activities.

Banco Popular, whose holding company is Popular Inc. in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has more than 60 branches throughout the country. Its offerings include credit card accounts, consumer loans, investment options, and commercial banking services.

Bankers Systems Inc. Gives Itself New Name

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Bankers Systems Inc., a provider of compliance software to banks, has been renamed Expere.The company is repositioning itself in part because of the compliance demands of electronic commerce.

"Compliance is not glamorous, but a financial institution can't survive without it," said Peggy Wilson, director of corporate marketing communications and manager of the Expere project.

The company has monitored federal and legal developments for nearly five decades. It has a large staff of attorneys and other legal professionals.

Eighty-three percent of U.S. banks use the company's compliance software. About 60 core data processors and systems integrators in the industry use its deposit, lending, and retirement plan compliance software.
