SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Smile, Co-operative Bank's Internet bank in the United Kingdom, has licensed software from Amdahl Corp. to help it monitor the availability and responsiveness of its online banking service.

Amdahl's EnView software measures application response time in Internet/intranet, client/server, and heritage applications. Historical and trend reporting provide real-time alerts to Smile's management.

If the service fails to work at what Smile considers an acceptable level, "We are able to alert our technical help desk and our business service center immediately," said John Bennett, head of IT operations at Manchester-based Smile. "The insight EnView gives us greatly increases our service responsiveness - and ultimately customer satisfaction."

Smile has signed 120,000 account holders in its first six months of operation. Amdahl is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Ltd.
