In Brief: U.S. Bancorp to Offer Web Check Viewing

MINNEAPOLIS - U.S. Bancorp said it will begin offering companies daily access to images of their cleared checks over the Internet.

The service, called U.S. Bank Image Tech Web, lets businesses view checks one day after they have been paid, allowing for quick verification and fraud detection, the company said. U.S. Bancorp said the service will also speed the traditional three-day turnaround process for businesses to obtain photocopied cancelled checks.

Chase Manhattan Corp. and Bank of America Corp. already offer online check viewing.

"Offering this service via the Internet means that check images can be retrieved in seconds, rather than waiting days for photocopies in the mail," said Jeffrey Jones, U.S. Bank's senior vice president and manager of commercial product management. "This daily access have can have a huge impact on preventing check fraud and improving efficiency and customer service."

Check images will be available online for 80 days.
