In Brief: Visa in Bill-Payment Deal with an Insurer

SAN FRANCISCO - Visa U.S.A. has begun an alliance with Wausau Insurance that lets people use their Visa cards to pay insurance premiums on Wausau's Web site.

Visa cardholders can go to the eWausau.com Web site, enter data about themselves, and get an insurance quote within one business day. Then they can use Wausau's "Autopay' function, which lets them put the whole premium on their Visa cards or get monthly bills automatically on the Internet.

Wausau, which is based in Wausau, Wis., offers personal insurance, workers' compensation, and other commercial lines on its Web site.

Armen Khachadourian, senior vice president of new market acceptance at Visa U.S.A., said the deal is "an example of how Visa is leveraging its strong Internet brand to build e-commerce bridges for merchants that don't have traditional e-commerce business models."
