In Brief: Vt.'s Chittenden Loses $44.4M Due to Deal

Vermont's Chittenden Corp. said it lost $44.4 million in the second quarter, the result of one-time charges from its deal for an in-state rival.

The loss, which equals $1.58 per share, compares to net income of $12.6 million, or 44 cents per share, the year earlier.

The Burlington-based company took a $71 million hit in the second quarter to complete its deal for Vermont Financial Service Corp. in Brattleboro. Without the charge, the $4.1 billion-asset company would have earned $26 million.
