In Brief: Wash. Thrift Promotes Exec to President

Washington Federal Inc. has promoted executive vice president Roy M. Whitehead, a former Wells Fargo & Co. executive, to president.

Mr. Whitehead, 46, succeeds Guy Pinkerton, 64, as president. Mr. Pinkerton remains chairman and chief executive officer of the $5.7 billion- asset thrift company and its main unit, Washington Federal Savings.

A 23-year banking veteran, Mr. Whitehead joined Washington Federal last September. He has been responsible for savings administration, deposit operations, special credits/real estate owned and loan operations for Washington Federal.

At Wells Fargo, he was regional vice president of the bank's South Texas region, and before that, president of First Interstate Bank of Colorado, which Wells Fargo acquired in 1996.
