In Brief: Web Payment Test Worked, Star Says

MAITLAND, Fla. - Star Systems Inc. said it routed the nation's first digital-signature-authorized ATM/debit card payment on the Internet.

Star said it routed the pilot transaction as part of the Nacha Internet Secure ATM Payments test, a collaboration aimed at establishing technical standards for secure Internet ATM/debit card payments. A final test is scheduled this year, and Star says it expects to have the technology certified by fall to route digital-signature-secured transactions.

"The nation's 200 million ATM/debit cardholders have come to rely on their PIN code to ensure secure transactions at ATMs and point of sale locations," said Ronald V. Congemi, president and chief executive officer of Star. "This historic pilot test brings consumers one step closer to enjoying the same security and dependability on the Internet."
