Meridien Research, Newton, MA, has tapped James Beams to head its newly created custom research division. As director of this unit, Beams will oversee research on topics such as peer-group analysis of vendors and financial institution users, and analysis on how using technology strategically can help address specific business issues.

Beams is no stranger to the financial services industry, with more than 20 years of experience in both the banking and financial research areas. Most recently, he was director of marketing, strategic development and alliances with Action Systems (now XChange). Before that, Beams was managing director of retail financial services with TowerGroup, and he served as vice president of Citicorp's card products and retail banking groups.
