Magna names Lou Ann Poynter president, chief operating officer.

Lou Ann Poynter has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of Magna Bancorp and its principal subsidiary, Magnolia Federal Bank for Savings, Hattiesburg, Miss.

She succeeds David M. Thomas, who retired at the end of June. Mr. Thomas had been president since 1988.

Robert S. Duncan continues as chairman and chief executive of Magna Bancorp.

Ms. Poynter has been executive vice president and treasurer of Magnolia Federal with responsibility for finance and administrative operations.

She is a member of the bank's board of directors and has served in various capacities since she joined the company in 1972.

Ms. Poynter has also served as treasurer and director of Magna Bancorp since 1991.

She is a member of the government affairs council and the tax and accounting committee of the Savings and Community Bankers of America.

She also is active in various other industry organizations, including the Mississippi League of Savings Associations, Financial Managers Society Inc., Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

She also has served on the Thrift Industry Accounting Committee and the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy.
